This blogfolio includes a self-introduction, discussions, lesson plan, Google doc, Google slide, Survey, Podcast, Digital Storyboard, EDpuzzle, Course site, Quizizz, Rubistar, Thinklink, and Scoopit.
I have learned so much in this class. The discussions were on point and very interesting. I learned new applications that I have never used before that have really enhanced my technology and research skills. This class has enabled me to explore new applications and other technology tools that will benefit me as I grow with technology.
Lesson plan was designed based upon my course subject, which is computer discovery. There were many great examples to use for this assignment. I have created lesson plans before so creating this lesson plan was not hard, but it made me do a lot of research about computer discovery 6th grade classes to see what types of lessons they do. Lesson plans are an important part of teaching and a must do that outline goals and objectives for assignments.
Google doc I have used before for other classes. Google doc was used to create instructions for an assignment. My assignment was titled, “how to use Edutopia and Wikipedia for research. This document was part of an assignment to give student instructions for researching sources. This was an easy document to create. Google docs benefit teachers and students. Students that may not have a computer that has the latest software can use Google docs as long as they have Internet access to complete assignments. Google docs also enable teachers and students to meet online with discussion boards.
I have used Google slide before. The Google slide was created as a PowerPoint titled, “creating a powtoon.” The Google slide included video, and images that provided information to the students based upon an assignment. Google slides is a great benefit to teachers and those teachers that teach flipped classrooms and create assignment for their students.
Survey was created using Google docs. Creating the survey was easy. Google survey creator makes it easy for any user to create any type of survey in a short period of time. I created a survey titled, “6th grade technology survey.” This survey was designed for a 6th grade technology discovery class to enable the teacher to know what technology skills their students have and what skills they lack. Creating a survey is a great way for the teacher to assess the students so that curriculum and lesson plans are designed based upon the results received from the survey.
Podcasts was created to give instructions to students in a flipped classroom. Teachers that teach flipped classroom use technology to their advantage by leaving messages for their students. The podcasts I created is titled, “creating a concept map.” The logic behind creating a concept map is to enable critical thinking skills for the students. Creating podcasts as a teacher would be a great benefit.
Digital storyboard was created using iMovie. The storyboard is titled, “parts of the computer.” Creating the digital storyboard was an easy task of collecting images and adding information to create a storyboard. Storyboards are a good way of teaching subjects because many multimedia products can be added. Videos and other animations can be added to make the storyboard interesting. I would use storyboards as part of course curriculum in teaching a class. The benefit of a storyboard is it can be accessed multiple times compared to teaching the subject over and over. The use of storyboards saves the teacher time.
EDpuzzle was new to me. The task was to find a video in a particular subject area and manipulate the video by adding test questions about materials covered at certain points. There are so many resources available, it took some time to find the video I wanted to use. I kept finding videos that were too long. No one wants to listen to a long video because students bore easy. Once I found the video creating the questions was easy. I would use EDpuzzle to give a quiz because they can be very entertaining.
Course site was designed using Weebly.com. Weebly is a good site but it has never been my favorite because of limitations of templates, and applications on their sites. Weebly is an easy application to use. My favorite feature is drop and drag. This process makes it easy to add information. I would use an application to create a course site as a teacher. Creating a course site makes it easy for the teacher because when there is flipped classroom students have access to all information for the class. They are able to access their assignments and have the ability to listen to lessons and complete assignments. There are so many digital materials that can be added to course sites that make teaching and learning easier. The teacher is able to reach all learners.
I have never tried Quizizz so this was a great experience. The task is to create a Quizizz for a course based upon a subject or an assignment. In which the teacher can set times for answering questions. The test can be designed using images to indicate correct or incorrect answers. This test is loads of fun. I think students would enjoy taking this type of test. The teacher has the option to add if right or wrong answers are revealed. I would use this application to create Quizizz for teaching. I think students would prefer taking a Quizizz than a traditional test. The only think is if students need a lot of time to think this is not the test for them. I came very close to running out of time while taking group members test. It is really funny racing against the clock to answer questions.
Rubistar was new application that I never heard of before. This application allowed me to create a rubric. The most unique feature it has is the teacher can add or use selected information available for the rubrics. This method makes creating rubrics easier and saves the teacher loads of time. I would use this tool.
Thinklink I have used before for another class, but when I prepared the Thinklink for this class it was a great refresher. I enjoy researching my topic because there is a lot of information available and sometimes the research changes direction when new information is discovered. Thinklink has multiple resources that can be used to link to an image. Thinklink is a great tool students can use to create hands-on projects. I would use this tool in teaching.
Creating Scoopit was new to me, but it was a welcomed challenge. This was a great source and new way of discovery new technology based upon a topic. Scoopit has so many articles, and videos that can be selected and Scoopit to collect multiple digital materials. I would use Scoopit as a teaching tool because students through the use of this application can perform many hands-on assignments.
Since I crave learning new technology, my strong point is not allowing new technology to defeat me. Some people turn and walk away when things get hard, but I have learned over the years that it just a test and I am not a quitter. There are too many resources available to help me along the way. Not only do I crave learning new technology, communication is the most important strength anyone can have. If we communicate effectively our points will not be misunderstood.
Now weakness I must say time restraints are a great weakness for me. I can only speak for me but time can get away from me when I have a lot of things going on, and from a student view if I have more than one class. The most important thing is never get behind in any course assignments because the quality of the work will not be the same and the stress level will be high. I try to stay ahead of the game, of course not a lot of time for family outings or other fun things I like to do. Overall, this has been a great class and Dr. Wang is an awesome instructor.
