Creating this weeks project was an experience. Creating the Podcast, made me really sit down and think hard about a topic. Since I am not a teacher but if I was I would be a computer discovery teacher. This only narrowed down the type of class I want to teach, but then I had to figure out what could 6th grade technology discovery student discuss. I decided on creating a concept map. I just completed creating a concept map for another class and decided that this would be a great lesson. Concept maps allow students to use their critical thinking skills.
Creating the digital story was lots of fun. I selected the topic “parts of the computer.” I have always had a great experience working with Apple applications and I have used iMovie to create movies for other courses for other projects. Although there were some though sections I welcomed the challenge.
EDpuzzle is new software I have never used, but it is great software this is easy to use. The tutorial provided was very helpful. There was an interesting twist on the EDpuzzle assignment. I misunderstood the instructions and used the video I created for the digital story. So when I discovered I used the wrong video I found a video and edited it using EDpuzzle. This was a humbling experience. I not only had to opportunity to edit my video, but also another video.
All three of these functions that include: creating a Podcast, digital storyboard, and EDpuzzle can be used in the classroom. Before this class I had only heard of a flipped classroom, but I can see where these functions can benefit. Creating a audio of class assignments is very helpful to the student that may not remember when they get home what they are suppose to do. This happen more than once with my children, but had their been a iMovie created it would have simplified the notes that did not make it home. This was also before Internet.
The iMovie or any digital storyboard brings the story or topic to life. The student can play the topic more than once for review. The EDpuzzle is a way for the teacher to modify a video he/she created or a video searched to edit by adding questions and other voiceovers to the video to aid their students learning.
Authoring software can help teachers teach students by offering different tools and features that enable the teacher to customize their instructional content by targeting lesson objectives. Teachers can create hypermedia presentations, reviews, games and other types of content they choose. Teachers when creating hypermedia presentations they can include videos with hyperlinks. Teachers can use web-based tools to create activities and materials that engage students. For example Hot Potato or Quizlet can be used to create assessments. I have used Hot Potato before to create test for an online course I created. Hot Potato is good software that has many functions. Teachers can also use other sources to create Podcasts of their lesson, which students can listen to assignments and discussions software such as Prezi is used to create a presentation this software can be used to create presentation projects.
